There is no carbon-free future without carbon-free real estate. The need to identify pathways to decarbonize the commercial building stock is a large and growing problem, and the manual process of hiring experts to physically visit every building to identify opportunities can not scale with the demand.

Audette is a climate tech company creating actionable data-driven decarbonization plans for commercial real-estate portfolios. Using AI to capture and analyze key building data, Audette’s end-to-end platform puts the needed insights into the hands of key stakeholders to help them drive the transition to carbon free real estate.

About the role


We are seeking a self-motivated Building Scientist to help generate actionable Decarbonization Plans for our customer’s building portfolios. You’ll play a pivotal role in encoding building science expertise into our platform, moving the decarbonization industry beyond traditional spreadsheet-based approaches and generating valuable insights at scale. You will be given ownership of key development objectives and the agency to explore solutions in pursuit of customer value.

This role is not just a consulting role. Our building scientists are actively and primarily involved in actually building software products that other people will use.

Key Responsibilities


  • Working with our data scientists to train machine learning models to accurately identify building features and programming knowledge systems to make decarbonization recommendations.
  • Identifying decarbonization strategies for a wide range of buildings, considering technical feasibility, financial performance, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Growing a library of energy efficiency, electrification, load flexibility, and renewable energy strategies for achieving net zero emissions within a building.
  • Collaborating with software engineers and even writing code to translate domain knowledge into software.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to team members with less experience in the domain, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Required Qualifications


  • Experience with the EnergyPlus energy modeling software package, at minimum. Additional packages (e.g., IESVe, eQuest etc.) are even better.
  • Possess a strong inclination towards software engineering principles, demonstrating a keen interest in learning and applying coding concepts and methodologies to encode domain knowledge into software solutions.
  • Practical knowledge of building construction and systems, as well as building decarbonization planning
  • Experience in analyzing building trend data, energy benchmarking, reviewing energy modeling results and business case development for energy and sustainability initiatives
  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, building science or other relevant, technically-oriented program
  • If not already fluent, ability and strong interest in learning to write production-level code in Python and SQL

Preferred Skills


  • Experience with Python, SQL, statistics, machine learning concepts, etc.
  • Experience working with building energy codes (ASHRAE, NECB, BC Energy Step Code, Toronto Green Standard, LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard, Passive House, etc.)
  • An understanding of the potential real-world complications that can arise during the implementation of decarbonization recommendations
  • An understanding of emerging technologies in energy efficiency, renewables, storage, carbon capture, etc. an asset

While Audette is a remote-first company and this position does not require coming into an office, nonetheless, this position does require you to maintain your primary residence in Canada or the United States for the full course of your employment and to work at least a five hour overlap with regular business hours in the Pacific time zone at all times

Compensation

$80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
